Songkran, the Thai New Year is around the corner. It is the most important festival of Thailand and the most awaited celebrations not only for Thai citizens but also for tourists. Tourists, who crave for authentic Thai experience, participate in these celebrations every year.
Hence post observing such trends, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) as come up with a brilliant idea. TAT is organizing special celebrations in Bangkok and 12 other provinces especially for tourists. The main objective is to portray ‘Songkran’ as a world event.
The Governor of the Tourism Authority, Mr. Suraphon Svetasreni, told the media “Songkran is definitely the festival that Thais most look forward to because it brings together family and friends to celebrate the Thai New Year by honoring their elders, while engaging in day-long fun by splashing water on friends and passersby. It is a unique combination of honoring ancient traditions and having fun, which makes Songkran popular with visitors looking for an unforgettable Thai experience.”
This event is named ‘Songkran Splendors’ and includes fun packed activities such as beauty pageants, oyster shelling competitions, sprinkling water on sacred Buddha statues, making food offerings at temples, etc.
The grand opening of Songkran Splendors will take place in Bangkok and events will be held at four popular temples in the city, Siam Paragon, and along the Chao Phraya River.
JTTJ team is delighted at this new initiative and equally excited for the success of the event. We give our best regards to TAT and the entire team of Songkran Splendors.
